Hello,
is it possible to copy information from tape to disk and then restore a client with the new information on disk?
I ask it because I have in process a restore that depends on tapes but it is taking a lot of time.
Can you help me?

Yes, it is possible.
You need to duplicate the tape copy to disk and set the new copy as primary copy.
Or if you restore from a command line, you can specify the version to restore (tech note two).
The bpduplicate command has a -npc (new primary copy) option. You may want to test with a small image first as the bpduplicate command is a bit tricky to work with when images has been part of SLP's.

Hello Nicolai,
the restore to tape requires 4 tapes, so I must duplicate each tape to disk and then change them all to the first copy?
is this image correct for duplicating?

Please duplicate on backup ID not individual tapes... then the backup ID will ask for all four tapes.

@quebek Quebek is spot on, always duplicate backup ID's. Yes it may sometimes be a very long list of backup IDs, but this way you ensure everything is moved or duplicated. If using tape ID, backup images spanning media's may be left out in the cold.

The job duplication to disk finish, but i dont see the image in disk in catalog... so i dont set the new imagen in disk to primary copy

You may have to select a different copy number if you are using the java GUI. Otherwise, use the bbpimagelist command as suggested (bpimagelist -backupid <backupid> -l ) and see which copy is on disk (the relevant FRAG). Then use the bpchangeprimary -copy <disk copy #> -id <backupid> to set the disk copy as primary. From there the restore will use this copy by default.

I use bpimagelist with backupid use according to the information that appears in the finished duplication.

To clarify - if you have a backup image and create copies of it, it will not be listed twice in the Netbackup catalog. Only one records will exist, but the number of fragments will be updated to reflect the new copies. The size of a FRAG is controlled by the "Maximum Fragment Size" and it is normal to have multiple fragments for one single backup image. E.g is Maximum fragment size" is 50G and the backup image is 100G, you will have 2 fragments. If you have two copies, one on tape and on disk, you will have at least 4 FRAG fields.

The the fragments is listed, this is where we can find the different copies of a image.
Using the tech note - field 6 = 2 (means tape), field 9 = 000308 (media ID).

In the output provided, there isn't FRAG for the disk copy. So it means the duplations either isn't successful or something removed the backup image again.
Once you have a disk copy in the bpimagelist output, you use command bpchangeprimary -copy <Copy Number > -id <backupid> provided by David to change the primary image from tape to disk. Primary Copy is field 28 in the "IMAGE" section. During a restore request, Netbackup will read field 28 and know what copy number to restore from.
