Restore of Exchange 2007 database

I am trying to restore a 2007 Mailbox Store to a Recovery Database in 2010. I do not care if this mounts or not. I just need to restore the information into the .edb and from there I can use a recover tool to see if has the mailbox I need.

When I go to do the restore though right away I am getting an Server status = 5 error message. The job details read

ep 25, 2017 11:00:54 AM - begin Restore
Sep 25, 2017 11:00:55 AM - Info bprd (pid=1265) starting BPRESOLVER
Sep 25, 2017 11:00:56 AM - Error bprd (pid=1265) Cannot process target restore path
Sep 25, 2017 11:00:56 AM - end Restore; elapsed time 0:00:02
the restore failed to recover the requested files (5)

Hello @mconstant81,

Microsoft 2007 and 2010 are two different Exchange architecters and they work in a different way in terms of the roles.

Microsoft 2007 deals with storage Groups and in 2010 there is no concept of using storage Group only databases in DAG are used.

In order to restore the Exchange 2007 DB , you may have to create a Receovery Storage Group where as in 2010 you may have to create Recovery DB.

Hope the above points gave you some idea on the recovery part now.

Now in order to restore you 2007 , create a Recovery Storage Group in the same 2007 cluster and restore the DB .

Once the DB is restored , Speak to your Exchange Team to export the mailbox data or for mailbox migrations to 2010.
