Restoring from old backup jobs not in Media server history

I need to access data from a Media server backup that predates the current listing in the NB history window. I ran the report to find out the tape used and placed it in the library. If I try to run a Phase 1 import (specifying the master server that controls the library) I get the following error:
==================================
11/4/2005 12:11:19 PM - begin Import
11/4/2005 12:11:20 PM - started process bptm (3308)
11/4/2005 12:11:20 PM - started process bptm (3308)
11/4/2005 12:11:20 PM - mounting DO031S
11/4/2005 12:12:32 PM - Error bptm(pid=3308) WRN - Cannot import media id DO031S, that media id is already active on some other server.
11/4/2005 12:12:32 PM - Error bpimport(pid=3592) Status = cannot perform specified media import operation.
11/4/2005 12:12:32 PM - end Import; elapsed time: 00:01:13
cannot perform specified media import operation(176)
===========================================

If I try to run the same Phase 1 import specifying the using the Media server, it asks me to manually import the ID (one that is already in the database)

What am I missing? Do I need to delete the medua from the database first?

Follow up Question: How do I increase the date range included in the backup history?

Thanks for any help!

Remove all references to the media before importing it. Follow this technote:
How to manually remove a tape completely from NetBackup/Media Manager

I have a very similar problem and am getting the same error. The solution is (?) to:

Expire the tape

Remove from NBU

Run Import

At that point I'll be able the see the images I should see and be able to move them to newer media in our current NBU system?

Thanks
