SLP and D2D Devices

Is anyone using SLPs on D2Ds?  I'm looking in the "NetBackup 7.1 Best Practice Using Storage Lifecycle Policies and Auto Image Replication" guide and all of the suggested settings are for VTLs or tape libraries.  I'm wondering if those same settings apply to a D2D NOT in VTL mode.

D2D device: HP B6200 using Catalyst Stores

Anyone?  There's a steak dinner waiting for you in Houston for the person who provides the most insight.

Thanks in advance,

Randy

I don't know if it will help, but 7.5 version supersedes the previous doc:

We can tell you all about SLPs with Quantum DXi and Data Domain! No experience with HP, but NBU config should be similar, I guess?

I found quite a lot of useful info w.r.t. disk, e.g. :

Use OpenStorage devices rather than VTLs

Use “Maximum I/O streams per volume” with Disk Pools

Reduce disk contention by disabling duplication during the backup window

Large duplication jobs are more efficient

etc... etc...

Most of the LIFECYCLE_PARAMETERS apply to disk as well as tape.

Maybe give the doc another chance? cheeky

So you got the B6200 with Catalyst (OST mode), that's great.

Back then in Q1/Q2 2012 the B6200 did not support OST, only the VTL mode.
HP was all like "Buy the latest and greatest B6200! Buy it!"
And we were like "No, we want OST support..."
Then they were like "VTL good! VTL better!"
Then we were like "No, VTL is bad and you should feel bad. Come back when you have OST."

Annnyway... VTL is approaching obsolete status, but you know that already.

Most of the things talked about in the SLP best practice guide still applies to D2D.
Together with the Nbu OST Solutions Guide for Disk, you should have everything you need to know:

Thanks for the input guys.  I'll give the new 7.5 doc another chance.  Chris, next time you're in Houston swing by.
