SQL Restore from 2008R2 to 2005

Hello Experts,

I have been trying to restore database from 2008R2 to 2005 and getting below error.

On dbclient I could see the below log

The media family on device 'VNBU0-51452-'is incorrectly formed. SQL Server cannot process this media family.>.

Is this restoration supported?

Please help me.

Simple answer "NO". You cannot restore a backup from a higher version of SQL Server on a lower version of SQL Server.

Let me also tell you . I am restoring a single database not the whole db into the 2005 server.

Its a limitation of SQL, I doubt if Veritas has any published article for this.

Not Veritas issue. This is Microsoft issue. So, for documentation, contact Microsoft.

You neeed to install at least SQL 2008 R2 binaries on the destination server, SQL is backward compatible but for good reasons not forward compatible.

The standard questions: Have you checked: 1) What has changed. 2) The manual 3) If there are any tech notes or VOX posts regarding the issue
