SQL backup failure on windows 2000 machine

Master/Media :- LINUX NBUv 7.5.0.5

Client Server:- Windows 2000 NBUv 6.5.6

We had recently configured the backup of server having OS as windows 2000.

OS backup of this server is working fine however SQL DB backup is failing with error code 2.

Please suggest if this configuration is supported and we can backup SQL DB that is running on Windows 2000 server and having netbackup v6.5.6 installed on it.

Support for Windows 2000 was removed in NBU 7.X.

Technical Windows2000 should work with a NBU 6.5 client, but it completely out of support.

So if our client server is having NBU 6.5.6 installed on it and our Master/media is 7.5.0.5 backup should work?

Might work, might not work - scenario is not tested by Symantec, nor supported.  Is this a production system?

It MAY work.

No guarantees as the OS and NBU versions are both unsupported.

To know the reason for status 2, you need dbclient log on the SQL client.

Cannot remember if you have to set up a DSN for SQL backup in 6.5, and if the NetBackup Client service have to run as a user that has Sysadmin in the SQL Server.

Can you start a backup from the Netbackup SQL GUI ?

The standard questions: Have you checked: 1) What has changed. 2) The manual 3) If there are any tech notes or VOX posts regarding the issue

As I mentioned it should work from a technical view. The problem here is, its out of support, and when it doesn't work there is no help to get. (sounding like a old grumpy man - sorry).

We will try to assist if you post dbclient log.

Create the dbclient folder under netbackup\logs on SQL client before next backup attempt.

After next failure, copy the log file to dbclient.txt and upload as File Attachment.

Thanks all for your replies.

We had decided to not to backup this server further and it has been now removed from netbackup.
