Hi All,

Sorry, If this question been here, kindly share the link.

I have 1 master + 3 media servers with 24 drives in 1 Library.
What are the benefits with and without SSO?
What things I should consider to have SSO?

Thanks,
Ifan

SSO is used to share the tape library amoung multple media servers. Its greatly useful for physical tape libraries where we backups can be written through multiple media servers at the same time. We can make use of SAN media server feature to backup data directly to tape without making them pass through network. The backups can be balanced between media server to allow multiple backups streams to one drive. We can make use of media multiplexing.

SSO can bring some complexities with tape library management but can be avoided by proper planning and configuration.

X8 drives on each media server, you don't need SSO.   A media server won't have the throughput to write to more than 8 drives at full speed, so there is no point in having more.  To be honest 8 is probably pushing it.

I agree dont bother with SSO. You have enough drives to share to your media servers.
