Hi

Master & media Solaris 10, NBU 7.6.0.3

Backup host : Windows 2008 R2, NBU 7.6.0.3, Physical host, San connectivity

VM client : windows 2008 server

Backups for this one client is failing with error 6 "Error bpbrm(pid=20754) from Client: ERR - Error opening the snapshot disks using given transport mode: Status 23"

when I changed the mode of the transfer to nbd this backup worked, But this backup should be running via SAN transport mode.

Please suggest.

  1. Does SAN transport work for other backups?
  2. Have you checked THIS client is definitely located with the other on SAN disk you mapped to backup host? Sometime you'll find the vm is maybe on NAS, or local disk, and people forgot about it.

Yes SAN transport method works for all other backups..

However I have noticed, SAN transport method is not working for all VMs which share the same datastore with this machine .

I have asked the team to check if Backup host have access to this datastore or not .. except this what else I need to ensure for backups to use SAN transport mode.

This explines the issues.. you need to ask your storage team to check the masking of this LUN to backup host.

Now storage team has presented this LUN to the backup host, but still issue persists.

I had a similar issue to something like this recently.

Heres how I solved it or got to bottom of it.

Go into the Windows VMware BAckup host and Disk Management.

Do you get prompted to Initialize a disk?

Is the datastore disk in question you cannot perform SAN backups listed in the Disks but is offline?

Check Properties and the MPIO and switch the current active path to standby and pick a standby path and set active.

Hi Stuart Green,

I had the same issue. Do we have to take datastore online on backup host?

Thank you.

Check vmware user permissons -

This VDDK version requires slightly different datastore level permissions for our NetBackup credential account in vCenter. If the credential role is not already an admin in vCenter and is set granularly (or with a stock VCB role), backups for the virtual clients

I doubt that @NBU35 is still looking for a solution after 2 years and 10 months...
