If the other 4 media have never been in the scratch pool they will return to the pool from where they orginated (i.e. NetBackup in your case?)

No. If 'Previous Pool' is not saying Scratch, it will not automatically go back to Scratch.

As per my previous post, you will have to move the Assigned tapes manually to Scratch when they expire.

All tapes need to be moved to Scratch at least once in order for the scratch functionality to work.

When tapes are moved from Scratch to a backup pool at the start of a backup, the 'Previous Pool' attribute will be changed to Scratch.

Only when 'Previous Pool' is recorded as Scratch will it automatically return to Scratch when all images have expired.

Have you had a look at the discussion that I have referenced above?

You need to create a barcode rule to move new tapes into the scratch pool. By default they will go into the NetBackup pool.

Also, I presume it actually *is* configured as a scratch pool & not just named as such ('right-click/change')

As well as revaroos suggestion to cater for any new tapes, media that is currently *unassigned* can be 'right-click/moved' into the new scratch pool.

As per above two excellent posts, you will have to manually move unassigned tapes to Scratch pool.

You will have to keep an eye on expiration dates for media and have to manually move tapes once to Scratch (use Media Summary report with Verbose option selected).

After this, media will be automatically moved to Scratch when they expire. This will only work if 'Previous Pool' attribute is the Scratch pool.

Thanks for quick answers :)

Suppose i have 10 Tapes  and 6 tapes are unassigned an in netbackup pool.I move these 5 Unassigned tapes to scratch pool.

As per marianne "After this, media will be automatically moved to Scratch when they expire. This will only work if 'Previous Pool' attribute is the Scratch pool"

Does it mean the rest 4 media would be moved to scratch pool automatically when they expire?

For assigning all tapes to scratch while inventory:

This is the below BARCODE rule is had on my server; hope this helps to create your own rule.

Barcode tag: <DEFAULT> {All new tapes will get assigned to Pool setup}

Media type: hcart3

pool name:  Scratch_Pool {Scratch Volume Pool}

Mount: 0

Delete a media from GUI and run inventory i should go to Scratch by default.
