Server-side Exception: Null when scanning for devices

Please help.  We just added a new Solaris 10 media server to our environment.  We're running NetBackup 7.1.  Our NBU Master is 7.1.

When I try to add a device with the "Device Configuration Wizard," I get an error that states "Server-side Exception: null," then another error that states "The wizard could not detect any removable media devices attached to the hosts you selected to scan."

I am able to see the robot (SL500) and tape drives from the OS level, and a tpautoconf -d output also shows the drives

 /usr/openv/volmgr/misc $ sudo tpautoconf -a

I've checked documentation, stopped NBU, removed the vmd.lock file, and started NBU, and I get the same results.  I've also reloaded the drivers and rebooted with a reconfiguration reboot.  Any help is appreciated!

are all the drives currently assigned to previous media servers?

So you have the Shared Storage Option installed.  if NOT, the unassign a drive to a current media server and see if you can then assign it to your new media server.

If you want all media servers to use all drives you have to get the SSO option.

All the drives are assigned to other media servers.  I do have the Shared Storage Option installed on all media servers.  I will try unassigning it and reassigning it.

No need to 'unassign' on other media servers - as long as you have SSO and Library based tape drive license installed on media server (in addition to Server license).

Does sgscan see the drives on the media server?

Does 'nbemmcmd -listhosts -verbose' report this media server as 'active for disk and tape'?

I was able to get the media server to see all the drives; it looks like there was an issue with the Java console.  I restarted the console and was able to deactivate/activate the media server for tapes and configure it with the drive configuration wizard.

However, I'm now unable to get it to create the storage unit, stating that the media doesn't have the "Remote Client" option installed.  I've never run into this before when creating the storage unit for the other media servers and they all have the same licensed features installed.
