Server5 2008 R2 - System State Errors

Unless someone else has been successful with this, it looks like we're going to be waiting on at least 6.5.5 for R2 backups. :(

NetBackup 6.5.4 doesn't seem to work properly with Server 2008 R2, I get numerous errors in backing up the System State, and it eventually kicks an error 13 and aborts the backup.  If you run a job with just the C:\ drive selected, it works fine:

Has anyone else had success?  I had these errors on both machines that I've tested...

Can you post the bpbkar log from the client for the timeframe of 3:10PM - 3:40PM?

  • bpbkar and bpfis logs for errors
  • Event Viewer errors in either the System or Applications logs around the time of the failure
  • From a command prompt run vssadmin list writers and see what the State and Last Error values are for each writer, if a writer has an error it should also be reflected in the Event Viewer logs. This information can be helpful in troubleshooting the error with Microsoft
  • Use the following TechNote to use Windows 2008's internal utility to backup the SCC to verify everything is working properly from that end

Did you ever get this to work? We too are experiencing this problem.

Thanks -

To clarify, my comments above do not indicate that this is supported! The steps above are just recommendations to gather more information to point to the source of the error. Proliferation will be extended to Wind2k8R2 and Win7 in NBU 6.5.5.

I answered my own question. Appariently, wbadmin does not come installed on Windows Server 200R2 by default (makes sense as they are trying to go modular), and must be installed through Features (both the GUI and command line tool). Once it was, things worked great!

I have recently migrated one server from Windows server 2003 to Windows server 2008 R2.
When we are trying to take backup of System State after backing 3160000 KB. Backups fails with Error file read failed(13)
I have created new policy for this backup and in that for the type of OS i have selected as PC- IA64 also i have selected as x64 but still the backup fails.
My NetBackup client version is 6.5.4

Could you please advise, how can this be resolve
