Shadow Copy Components:\ are not excluding in Netbackup 7.0

sudu_mlk

Hi All,

I have Netbackup 7.0 master server and Netbcakup 7.0 client is installed on the Windows 2003 server. The Shadow Copy Componenets:\ are completing with status code 1.

i excluded the Shadow Copy components:\ in excluded list, but when the backup starts on the windows server, again this Shadow copy components:\ will start to backup and completing by status 1.

I heard this is bug in Netbackup 7.0, is this will corrected in Netbackup 7.0.1?? or any resolution.

Thanks!!
SUDU.

Can we assume that you have carefully checked for typo errors?

The bug in NBU 7 causes a status 90 - see this post for details:

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/status-code-90-excluded-drives

the Status 1 on the Shadow Copy Components apart from just trying to exclude?

Is the Volume Shadow Copy service on the client set to manual?
Are there any VSS issues noted in the clients' Event Viewer?
Status of VSS writers?
Logs? Job Details?

If you're sure you don't want the SCC backed up & your excludes aren't working (did you check for typos as Marianne suggested?) your only workaround would be to specify the drives only in the backup selection of the policy.

Andy,

I specified shadows copy as Shadow Copy Components:\ in exclude list and VSS on the client is set to manual, below are details from client bpkar log..

Are there any VSS issues noted in the clients' Event Viewer?
Status of VSS writers?

Also, can you confirm what the policy type is set to? There's an old T/N relating to 5.x that states if set to "Standard" WOFB not used (altho' I would imagine you'd have more than just issues with SCC if that was the case!?)

Seems you are experiencing the same issue described in this TN:

http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/354674.htm

NetBackup tries to backup what is in the Exclude List ....

(although no error 69 since you don't seem to have ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES in Backup Selection)

You might want to open a support call with Symantec....

Hi Andy and Marianne,

First thanks to you.

The below are the details of Netbackup Server and netbackup Client.

Master Server: Netbackup 7.0, running on Windows Server 2003 R2 x64 bit.

Netbackup Client: Netbackup client 7.0, running on Windows server 2003 R2 x86 bit.

Netbackup Policy: MS-Windows

Backup Selection: ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES

Excluded list:

C:\*

D:\Program Files\Veritas\Netbackup\bin\*.lock

D:\Program Files\Veritas\Netbackup\bin\bprd.d\*.lock

D:\Program Files\Veritas\Netbackup\bin\bpsched.d\*.lock

D:\Program Files\Veritas\NetbackupDB\data\*

D:\Program Files\Veritas\Volmgr\misc\*

Shadow Copy Components:\

However the C: drive will work fine, but the shadow copy are not and have not any VSS issues on client side event logs.

I have seen only only when the Shadow Copy backup starts the VSS is turing on and will stop when backup finish.

Regards,

SUDU.

As previously suggested - please log a call with Support. It might be the same issue described in the TN that I've mentioned previously.

Please let us know what the outcome is with the support call.
