Hi,

I am getting EC 156 while taking backup of Windows server.

Master Server Version = HP-UX (7.5.0.6)

media Server Version = HP-UX (7.5.0.4)

Client Server version= WINDOWS 2008 (7.5.0.4)

(156) snapshot error encountered

Let me know if any other information is required.

Can you tell me what needs to be done in this case.

Thanks in Advance

Hi Sachin,

First make sure that VSS service is running on the client if its not running start the same and re-run backup see if that helps.

Else,

Go to master server host properties and add the client in client attribute tab and in the windows open file backups select the disable snapshot and continue backup option.

This should help ..!!

Status 156 is a generic 'snapshot failed' error.

As a start, show us all text in Job Details of the failed job.

You may also want to work through suggestions in this TN:

As Marianne says it is very generic

Tell us as much as possible:

1. text from details tab of the job

2. The backup type (ms-windows?)

3. The policy selection list

4. Setup \ntebackup\logs\bpfis folder on the client and attach the log file after the next failure

5. the output of "vssadmin list writers" run on the client

Thanks

adding on to the excellent advise above,go to the Event viewer and look for the VSS and volsnap error. share the volsnap error if you can find any at the time of the failure

Hello Folks,

Issue has been resolved by upgrading the patch on server from 7.5.0.4 to 7.5.0.6.

Thanks for your Suggestion and help,
