Staging area in Catalog backup

I would like to know the use of staging area in catalog backup process in Symantec Net backup.Thank you.

Because this is a hot Catalog backup, the relational database cannot be backed up 'as is' with filesystem backup. The database need to be dumped to disk before it can be backed up to tape or disk STU. The dump to disk of live data is the staging job. The next step will write this data in staging area to the STU.

FYI - just a reminder that we (backup/server admins/support/engineers) are not meant to tamper with the staging area.  Only Symantec Support should ever be allowed near that area.

@chanda: The catalog backup process copies this data to
Install_path\VERITAS\NetBackupDB\staging and backs up the copy
