Status 24 on backup of Shadow Copy Componenets

Hi,

I've a backup on a Windows 2008 server fails with Status 24 when trying to back up Shadow Copy Components.

It fails at the same place every time after backing up 10,515,152KB.

It doesn't seem to be the usual networky type failure as it stops at exactly the same place every time either running full or incr. All other disks back up without error when the policy is set to All Local Drives

I've attached bpbkar_Status_24.txt for reference.

Any help much appreciated

The error looks like https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.000021580 Try to use

-On the Advanced tab, clicked Disabled in the box for every line that included the word "offload".
  (This reduces the workload on the NIC and the server CPU then picks up the workload)

ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES includes Shadow Copy Componenets and if it was a problem with reading some HDD area it would fail too.

Can you increase logging level to 3?

We need to see if we can get more info between these timestamps:

12:56:07.702 [5196.5992] <4> dos_backup::tfs_scanstart: INF - in 'backup' mode
13:21:33.707 [5196.5992] <16> tar_tfi::processException:

An Exception of type [SocketWriteException] has occured at:

Status 24 is indeed a 'disconnect' at network level.
It could be a firewall timeout or TCP KeepAlive.

Herewith explanation of status 23, 24, 25:

On shadow copy components or system state a status 24 can mean the VSS snapshot either hangs or/and fails.

The blog below has helped me solve lot of issue with VSS snapshot

https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/askcore/2010/06/18/reasons-why-the-error-enumeration-of-the-file...

One of the most common reason I have seen is a too small shadow area.

The standard questions: Have you checked: 1) What has changed. 2) The manual 3) If there are any tech notes or VOX posts regarding the issue
