Status 25 Ubuntu 11.04 Client

erose
Level 3

I have a netbackup 7.1 client (Ubuntu 11.04) and I am getting Status 25 errors when trying to do a backup.  I am not sure what to look for or where to go.  I can ping the master server/media server from the client and vice versa.  I do not see any issues with the client not having the proper deamons running and the master server is backing up server different clients already.  Just this new ubuntu 11.04 client, which is a VM that seems to have an issue.

Master Server/Media Server - Solaris 10U9 x64

Client - VM Ubuntu 11.04

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks

Ed

"server not allowed access"

Did you remember to create bpcd log dir on the client before doing bptestbpcd?

We should be able to see in bpcd log if client is able to resolve master's incoming IP address to a valid hostname that matches SERVER entry in bp.conf.

You can also do the following from the client:

bpclntcmd -ip <server-ip>

If hostname is not returned, add /etc/hosts entry on the client for the master.
Ensure that the SERVER entry in client's bp.conf matches the hosts entry.

Not applicable

3 things to check/test.

1. Disable any running firewalls.

2. Is xinetd set to on? Any services set to run out there incl. bpcd will not operate.

chkconfig -l

3. TCP wrapper configured denying specific services?

cat /etc/hosts.allow /etc/hosts.deny

18:27:24.475 [2444] <2> bptestbpcd: server not allowed access
<2>bptestbpcd: EXIT status = 46

Edit the bp.conf on the client and make sure that "dpcbackup01" is in the SERVER entry line on the client. IF "dpcbackup01" is the master server, it has to be listed FIRST in the bp.conf. Now re-run the bptestbpcd command.

For example:

SERVER = dpcbackup01
SERVER = media1
SERVER = media2
VERBOSE = 5
....

SERVER = dpcbackup01.wv.mentorg.com
CLIENT_NAME = backupproxy
VERBOSE = 5

There is entries in the /etc/hosts file as well on the client.
The client was changed also from Ubuntu 11.04 to SLES 10SP3 due to "conforming" to the current environment that we have.  The server team wanted to make all the VM's the exactly the same *sigh*

I fixed the issue.  It was a hostname of the master/media server.  The master/media server is on multiple subnets and it just happened to be on the same subnet as the clients.  I added the IP address of the master/media server which was on the same subnet to the hosts file and now it is all working.

Thanks for all the help

As per my post above  (https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/status-25-ubuntu-1104-client#comment-6032761 ), if you had a look at the bpcd log on the client you would've seen that the client was unable to resolve the server IP to a hostname that appears in bp.conf SERVER list.....
