could you confirm if the Destination client has the netbackup installed and configured and have good communication from the media server that is being used for this restore?

Hi RamNagalla,

No, the destination and the source are the same (the policy is vmware) and the destination do not have nbu client installed.

BTW, I tried with another destination as "nbmaster" (AIX) and a server window with nbu client installed and the error code was the same.

Thank for your support !!

Hello,

If you want to restore FILES to a VM that was backed up using VMware Policy Type, you need to install the NetBackup Client software on that VM.

Restore to AIX master should work. Please show us screenshots of each step starting with source and destination client selection up to last restore screen where you specifify restore path. Please also ensure that bprd log folder exists on the master server. More logs will be needed to troubleshoot, but bprd is a good starting point to check initial restore parameters. If the folder does not exist under /usr/openv/netbackup/logs, create it and restart NBU on the master. Retry the restore and take screenshots. Please upload screenshots and bprd log as File attachments (copy log to bprd.txt).

Weird that you can browse but bprd says it cannot find anything under /var: 08:21:52.389 [22675964.1] <16> bprd.sfr: get_fsmap_params: database query for f/s map record failed path = /var/ 08:21:52.389 [22675964.1] <2> db_end: Need to collect reply 08:21:52.418 [22675964.1] <2> db_end: no DONE from db_getreply(): no entity was found 08:21:52.418 [22675964.1] <4> bprd.sfr: sfr: restoring files in partition /\\.\VMFILE0_1456961441 08:21:52.418 [22675964.1] <4> bprd.sfr: sfr: no files to restore in partition /\\.\VMFILE0_1456961441 My only suggestion is to log a Support call with Veritas.

You are trying to do a cross-platform restore to your master (AIX) from a client backup (Linux) and that is not supported.

https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.000068025

For the actual restore that you wanted to do in the first place, you must have client software installed on the destination client. VADP backups will work without a client, but require a client in case of file restores.

Linux and Unix are same OS family. Cross restore is perfectly supported. Restore between Windows and *nx is what is not supported.

I just tried restoring from a VADP backup to a physical Solaris server with client installed - did not work and gave status 2820. Restore to a physical RHEL server worked. Maybe its just my configuration, I dont want to get into a screaming match.

Thanks all,

I have already create a case in Veritas in order to help with this issue.
