Status code 58 for MS-Windows 2K3 Box

Hi,

Windows server backup is failing with status code 58.

Checked hosname to ip address resolution in both master, media and client servers. Everything is okay. I made an host entry in the all the servers(master, media and client servers).

Excuted bpclntcmd -pn from the client and it is working fine.

Run the bptestbpcd command from master and media server also for client server. I found no issues in the output.

Still the backup is failing with ERROR STATUS CODE 58(Cannot connect to client)....!

Pls help me to find the solution for this backup failure...!

Client BPCD log file:

From the NB administration Console:

1. Launch the NetBackup Administration Console, connecting to the master server

2. Expand Host Properties in the left pane

3. Select Master Server in the left pane

4. Click the name of the master server in the right pane

5. Select the Client Attributes section

6. Add the name of the client in that is having problem if it isn't listed
7. In the Connect Options tab for the client, make the following changes:

BPCD connect back -> "Random port"  or VNETD port (give test backup try with both options)
Ports ->  "Reserved port"
Daemon connection port -> "Daemon port only"

OR

Try camparing with your client whose backups are successfull and try same values for this client also

STATUS CODE 58: Can't connect to client. Troubleshooting procedures for Status 58 errors.

Details:
Overview:
A status 58 error results from either a TCP SYN request sent to a client from the NetBackup (NBU) server that was not acknowledged or the server was not resolvable so a TCP SYN request was not sent. The majority of the causes of this issue are due to the client not listening on the BPCD or VNETD ports, the master server unable to resolve the client by hostname, or the client can not resolve the NBU server by its IP address. NBU clients running 6.x release, though it uses the vnetd daemon for incoming connections, it still requires bpcd to perform the hostname compare to authenticate the NBU server.

Please check your netbackup client properties and see if you have mentioned any other server apart from your existing Master and Media server. Ideally there should not be any other server entry.

Also let us know if this setup was working earlier or are you facing the issue from the very beginning?

We just added an Inbound Rule to exclude the NetBackup process bpinetd.exe which alleviated our issues (different to the exclusion in the T/N I quoted previously I know, but ...)
