Seems we constantly misunderstand one another...

Before you try and label with new media-id:

(as per one of my previous posts)

First, add a new media id in the Media GUI and assign it to a volume pool.

I have also posted a link to this discussion that explains stadalone media management:

https://www.veritas.com/connect/forums/netbackup-70-standalone-drive

Extract:

Say you have 6 physical tapes and you decide to put labels/stickers on them:
A00001
A00002
A00003
A00004
A00005
A00006

You next go to Media Gui and add new volumes: A00001 - 6
Ensure density matches that of the tape drive and select a pool.

Once added, you insert tape A00001 into the tape drive, wait for the 'Ready' light on the drive, then use bplabel as per the TechNote:
bplabel -m A00001 -d hcart -o -p NetBackup -u 0

Repeat for rest of tapes.

Are you using a tape library and tapes with BAR CODES, or are you using a stand alone tape drive?

You use standalone 4mm tape  drive, right?

If so , didn't you replace new unlabeled tape? NetBackup add it as a new volume when inserted tape in standalone drive has no labeled.

To prevent this, add a volume and label it before you start to use it.

and I may be mis-interpreting the question (which isn't the first & probably won't be the last time!), but don't you have to run a physical inventory (vmphyinv) or some such so that NB knows what tape is in the drive?

If I have a tape that has already been written to then it has that written id on it.

When you put it into the tape drive it should read that.

In my case I have tape H00122 that was already written to so it has an id

I put it in my stand alone tape drive

If I go to gui/ activity monitor drives tab, it shows me the id of that tape I put in.

Now if it does not exist in the volmgr database thne I have to do a manual add of the tape.

So for that example.

I put the tape in

I go to gui /media

new volume

tape / whatever type/ H00122

I wonder if he is missing that step?

There have been quite a number of discussions on this forum on how to use standalone tape drives, e.g.

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/netbackup-654-standalone-tape-drive

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/netbackup-70-standalone-drive

Also have a look at this TN: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH56903

You have to create and label volumes if you want to use them with appropriate volume name using standalone drives.

You have to use "-p None" instead. Or change volume pool of A00009 to NetBackup volume pool.

Thanks for your kind reply Yasuhisa. Let me try it on Monday in Office :)

The reason why bptm does not contain any record of bplabel is because the process stopped with the resource broker. nbrb found that the media was 'in use', i.e. not in the pool that you've specified. So, nbrb never handed over to bptm.

bpcd is used when connection is established - therefore not applicable here.

You seem to have some catalog inconsistency...

bpexpdate.exe -m A00003 -d 0

Please post output of :
nbemmcmd -listmedia -mediaid A00003

That's why you're getting the error - that's also shown by your available media command: no images & AVAILABLE.

If I run the same bpexpdate on a scratch tape here I get exactly the same output & "error"

Thanks ANDY for your kind input

I also tried to use the below command. It might help to resolve my issue

(Tape 1) New Tape

C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Volmgr\bin>vmphyinv.exe -n SEAGATE.DATDAT72-000.000
Unknown or corrupt media detected in the drive

(Tape 2) This tape have data/backup images which i took last working day
C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Volmgr\bin>vmphyinv.exe -n SEAGATE.DATDAT72-000.000
Volume configuration is up-to-date with robot contents.

One more thing when i insert both tape one by one both shows same name of Tape Cartridge which is A00003

One more thing i would like to add here....

The Tape which have backup images is inserted in the Standalone Tape Drive. I also shared the result above, see below also. But if you see the Image of GUI i am not even able to see the Media which i click on Media Box

C:\Program Files\VERITAS\Volmgr\bin>vmphyinv.exe -n SEAGATE.DATDAT72-000.000
Volume configuration is up-to-date with robot contents.

Second the available_media is not showing my the data look below

It seems with all your bpexpdate commands that you managed to expire all images associated with media id A00003.

What you need to do now is the following - relabel the new tape that you know has no images.

First, add a new media id in the Media GUI and assign it to a volume pool.

Next, insert this tape in the drive.

Run bplabel to write the new internal label. Update the external paper-label to match the new id.

You can now try to import media id A00003 (the one that you've written backups to). Hopefully you have not been successful with bplabel on this tape, as this would have destroyed the data on tape.

*** EDIT ****

The 'Verify' that you ran is displaying image info on Disk STU's under D:\Backups
