Tape drives in "hcart3-Clean" status

Hi guys,

NBU 6.5.5, running on Solaris 5.10. After a recent reconfiguration of one of the tape drives (it got replaced cuz it was not functioning properly) I've had the surprise of seeing this:

SL500-D1                 Yes     Yes    100220  100220  Yes       hcart3-Clean
    drezden.bkp                /dev/rmt/3cbn                        SCAN-TLD
    stuttgart.bkp              /dev/rmt/5cbn                        TLD
    raul                       /dev/rmt/0cbn                        ACTIVE

SL500-D2                 Yes     Yes    000711  000711  Yes       hcart3
    drezden.bkp                /dev/rmt/0cbn                        SCAN-TLD
    stuttgart.bkp              /dev/rmt/1cbn                        TLD
    raul                       /dev/rmt/3cbn                        ACTIVE

SL500-D3                 Yes     Yes    100237  100237  Yes       hcart3-Clean
    drezden.bkp                /dev/rmt/4cbn                        SCAN-TLD
    stuttgart.bkp              /dev/rmt/3cbn                        TLD
    raul                       /dev/rmt/1cbn                        ACTIVE

SL500-D4                 No      No                     No        hcart3-Clean
    drezden.bkp                /dev/rmt/1cbn                        SCAN-TLD
    stuttgart.bkp              /dev/rmt/0cbn                        TLD
    raul                       /dev/rmt/4cbn                        TLD

SL500-D5                 No      No                     No        hcart3-Clean
    drezden.bkp                /dev/rmt/5cbn                        SCAN-TLD
    stuttgart.bkp              /dev/rmt/4cbn                        TLD
    raul                       /dev/rmt/2cbn                        ACTIVE

SL500-D6                 No      No                     No        hcart3-Clean
    drezden.bkp                /dev/rmt/2cbn                        TLD
    stuttgart.bkp              /dev/rmt/2cbn                        SCAN-TLD
    raul                       /dev/rmt/5cbn                        ACTIVE

Except for that replaced TD (SL500-D2), all the other drives are now displaying the weird hcart3-Clean status. Since cleaning was not enabled at a tape library level, I've done that already, and the SLconsole now reports that the drives are no longer in need of cleaning... however, in the CLI I still get the same status. Any ideas ?

Thanks,

Run /usr/openv/volmgr/bin/tpclean -M <Drive Name> for all the drives that are showing as hcart3-Clean.

The -M option with tpclean resets the mount time for a drive to zero.

You normally use this command after you manually clean the drive.

/etc/init.d/netbackup stop
rem_drv sg
rm /kernel/drv/sg.conf
rm /dev/sg/*
rm /dev/rmt/*
devfsadm -C -v
cd /opt/openv/volmgr/bin/driver
../sg.build all -mt 15 -ml 1
./sg.install
/etc/init.d/netbackup
cd /

Tmy_70, perhaps your reply is for some other thread?

VM's post should do the trick (tpclean -M).

Or in the GUI select Device Monitor, Drive Name, Drive Cleaning, Reset Mount Time

Cronos had this problem back in August...

Would be nice if he could tell what the current status is? such as ouptut of the following on the media server:

tpconfig -l
vmoprcmd -d
