NBU Catalog Management is a very powerful tool for tape and disk images. This is how I create my synthectic fulls from tapes previously created:
vmchange -m 000102 -d "Monthly_2014_02_Feb" -h scfbi0p0nbu9.scfbins1.com
bpexpdate -m 000102 -d 05/01/2015 23:59:59 -host scfbi0p0nbu9.scfbins1.com -force
This will take the tape(s) you specify and "flag" them for you. I hope this is what you are asking for...

Not sure what exactly you are asking?
Are you asking about tapes containing Catalog backups?
Or normal backup tapes in a pool containing some 'special' backups?
Also not sure what you mean with 'flag/mark' ?
Please help us to understand your requirement.

Current version of Netbackup does not differentiate "normal" tape from catalog tapes.
In NBU 5.1 and previous the catalog tapes was in a different format.
If configure Netbackup to mail the DR file the Catalog Backup generate, you will always be able to see in the mail what tape are needed in case of DR restore.
