Hi Friends,
Currently i am using Netbackup 7.1.0.2 in windows 2003 OS.
We have 6 LTO 3 drives and my master and media servers are the same for this backup and restore.
When i am trying to restore any file, the respective tapes are not get mounted. Logged a case with Symantec and they have collected all the logs and suggested to free up the drives. Then I have made the drives are free , though tapes are not getting mounted and job is in active and saying mounting.
Recycled the Netabackup services, rebooted the server, but no luck.
Could you please any have a idea to resolve this issue. ( Till lastweek my restorations are going fine).
Regards,
Nice....

Run bpps from cmd to find this particular process.
I have experienced difficulty on Windows to find this particular process. What we did was to stop NBU Request Service and use Task Manager to kill remaining bprd's. We found one that could not be killed with Task Manager and had to use command line (taskill or something like that if memory serves me right....)
Even above steps will not kill running backups. Just user directed backups and restores that kick off during this time will fail.
Start Request Service again as soon as all bprd's are killed. Then retry the restore.

please post the details status of the restore job and also the restore log from installpath/veritas/netbackup/logs/user_ops/<userid>/logs
what is the density of the tape drives that are configured...?
what is the density of the tapes that you are trying to user of restore?
both should be same , make sure that...

You need to give us more info:
Show us all text in the Details tab of the restore job.
Post all of these logs as File Attachments (rename them to reflect process name, e.g. bprd.txt):
On master: bprd
On media server: bptm and bpbrm
Output of these commands on the master when restore is active:
vmoprcmd -d
nbrbutil -dump
(copy bottom part - MDS allocations - of this output)

Thanks Naglla,
Destinty of the drive -- in the same tape library of the master server,
Destination fo the client is different.
See, As noticed in the detailed status, there is no tape mount request sent by netbackup.
It has stopped with tape details and there is no progress on that..
i will paste the logs

Is restore job hung with ' media needed: .....' ?
Then have a look at this post:

Hi Marianne,
Thanks for the response, i have a query.
Just confirm, if i kill the bprd, it may affect the current running backups?

No. Only restores are managed by bprd. Not backups.
And just kill the hung process, not other bprd's.

Yes, Marinne.
I will do it and update.

I have shared my personal experience with this issue in this post: https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/unable-restore-data-nbu-75
See my last comment in that discussion.
As long as this is not recognized by Symantec Support and handed over to Engineering, this is the only workaround/solution.
You may want to show your Support engineer this and the above discussion..........
