Hi, (NBU experts)
We have a requirement of backing up Terra Data : Server to DataDomain to Tapes
Specific requirements due to certain resource restrictions:
1) Backup size to start with (4 TB) expected to grow up to 20 TB in couple of months.
2) Expecting a 2 days worth backup to be available on DD (for restores, if needed) and duplicate the backups to tape (with SLP).
3) Scope of using a Virtual media server, comments on using this media server with DD only and DD as well as Tape solution.
4) Currently netbackup is at 7.1.0.4, DD Boost enabled on prod and DR DD (2 data domains).
5) Typicall compression achieved for Terradata backups with reference to Dedupe and compression factors in DD (any numbers as per your experiences)
Our plan is to enable a dedicate 10 Gbe comm channel between the media server and the DD to evade any throughput issues.
How do we plan the Media server as a VM, if the solution is considering to have data duplicated to Tapes? Considerations for VM creation considering the fact the it will be neeing HIGH CPU and Memory <suggestive specs on h/w>.
Any best practises/considerations from the ones who may have already tried their hands at such solution ?
By the end of this discussion I'll share the solution that would surface and be implemented as a token of regards to all your efforts and assistance.
Thanks in advance !
