Transfer NBU backup images from Data Domain to ECS EX500

Hello Team,

Wondering if there's a document/procedure for transferring NetBackup backup images from EMC Dell Data Domain disk storage to an EMC Dell ECS EX500 device.  Will need to transfer/copy 1,000s of primary backup images from older Data Domains to the new ECS device, then expire the original copies from the older Data Domains  (at some point) and still keep NetBackup aware of the backup image locations.  The older Data Domains will be decommissioned after the data transfers and expirations are completed and confirmed.

The ECS device will end up containing older backup images with multi-year retentions and a new Data Domain DD9000 will contain recent daily backup images.

Realize there are a number of variables, but is there a method to estimate how long to transfer old Data Domain backup images to new ECS device ?  Assume the older Data Domain backup images will need to be deduplicated before transfer to the new ECS device.

Current Environment:  NetBackup 8.3.x on RedHat Linux Master and multiple RedHat Media servers writing to older Data Domain DD7200/DD890 units connected using DDBoost.

New environment: NetBackup 8.3.x on RedHat Linux Master and multiple RedHat Media servers writing to new Data Domain 9000 Data Domain units connected using DDBoost, then transfer/write/expire long retention backup images to Dell ECS EX500 device.

Thanks in advance !

There is no difference between moving backups from DD to ECS or moving from a DD to a DD or any other storage device.

You have to create a list of backup IDs. You have to move, duplicate, and expire the DD copy. You can do it from the GUI ( catalog) or using the CLI.

There is no way to predict the needed time to move the backups. If you think that coping with older backups will slow down new backups, you can do it in batches.

Thank you for the rapid response...  I thought as much, that migrating backup image data between a Data Domain to other configured storage was similar, but wanted to double check.  Thanks !
