Transitioning from NBU 6.5 to 7.5

Have moved from NBU 6.5 to 7.5 and now would like some input on the best way to deal with long term tape backups of important records some with expiration dates of up to five years.

What is the best method of dealing with this type of situation? 

Are there any established or best practices and procedures?

Importing the tapes or just creating copies of the backup history as required?

It sounds like you installed a new master server with 7.5 instead of upgrading the old server? Or instead of migrating to new server using catalog backup and restore followed by upgrade? Those are the recommended upgrade/migrate options. If you want to restore from 5 year retention backups you will either need to keep the 6.5 master around or else import on the 7.5 master.
