Trying to setup sharepoint option in netbackup 6.5.3.1 for sharepoint 2007 server

I'm trying to backup a sharepoint 2007 server using the sharepoint option in netbackup 6.5.3.1.
Policy type: MS-Sharepoint
Backup Selection: Microsoft SharePoint Resources:\All Portals

and I end up with a 200 error(scheduler found no backups due to run)

The netbackup client service on the server is using a sharepoint admin login and the same login is use for the host properties for the server.

Is there something I am missing or is it a different backup selection when dealing with sharepoint 2007 as opposed to sharepoint 2003?

Thanks in advance.

Good day,
Yes, SP is a little complicated to setup, that's for sure.
Have you read through the Admin Guide for it?
Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server 2003 System Administrator's Guide ( http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/290214.htm )

And here is anotuer useful guide.
http://support.veritas.com/docs/305549
How to configure NetBackup for SharePoint 2003/2007 document level backup and restore from version 6.5.3

Other things to note:
In my policy, my selection was: Microsoft SharePoint Resources:\*

Then the document level policy selected: Microsoft SharePoint Resources:\http://<address of A (1 at a time) portal>

Another thing to check is the 'SharePoint Hosts' section of the Host Properties of the Master server:

Hope that helps!

I changed the login account used for sharepoint server so it was the proper one as it was typed in wrong. However, now when I run the backup I get some database is inconsistent error messages...

05/01/2009 09:16:13 - Warning bpbrm (pid=16605) from client abc: WRN - can't open object: Microsoft SharePoint Resources:\http://abc:8080\Team DB 6 (ABC/test1)\test1 (BEDS 0xE000FE3D: The database is inconsistent.)

This happens for many other portal sites as well. Would this be an issue with the portal/database or are there changes that need to be made from a netbackup end of things.

Sounds like it's time to call Support on that one.
Do ANY of your sites backup successfully?

Hi,

Please try the below and let us know how you go.

1. On each node of your SharePoint farm (including SQL), verify that you have NBU 6.5.3.1 installed. If any other versions are installed, a version mismatch error will occur.

2. The netbackup client service on each node of the farm (including sql) must be updated to run under a domain account. The domain account needs to be the same for each node.

3. The domain account needs the following application level rights:
-SharePoint Farm Administrator
-SysAdmin role within SQL

4. The domain account needs the following local rights on all nodes (including sql):
-Local Administrator
-Replace a process level token (found under local security policy)
-Debug programs (found under local security policy)

5. Verify that .net 3.0 sp1 or higher is installed on all nodes.

6. Your backup policy should use this directive "Microsoft SharePoint Resources:\"
The only client in the policy should be the front end server from the farm.

Hi,

I have followed your steps but the error i have encountered is network read failed.
Something tells me it might be the firewall is at fault but i cant deduce this .. as the netbackup master server has no problem backing up the SQL box and the FrontEnd, just not using the sharepoint agent.

a little background of the setup in my environment,

1. FrontEnd is in dmz zone
2. Apps (Central Admin) and SQL boxes are in server farm zone.

Firewall between the zones are services based rules (meaning SQL will be port 1433..and etc)
during the backup using sharepoint agent, is there any communication that happen between frontend and the backup sql box? if there is, what are the port requirements for this?

Thanks!
