Our Environment:

NBU 7.6.0.1 Master / BMR Master / BMR Boot Windows 2008 R2.

Source BMR Client Windows 2008 R2 UEFI Enabled.

Destination Dissimiler Hardware Client is non-EFI system.

I just want to confirm is it possible to restore UEFI System BMR Backup to non-EFI system which is only have BIO Boot there is no UEFI Booting support.

because when i am trying to restore UEFI BMR BAckup to non-EFI System restoration job completed and at the and of BMR Restoration i received an error on "Finalize Restore" and the error is mentioned below for refernce.

" Unable to make Registry modification required to boot the system"

Issue has been resolved.

Unfortunately BMR restore for UEFI Enabled System is only supported for “SELF RESTORE” means it can only restore on same system even we cannot change the disk.

Below line is mentioned in BMR Admin Guide NBU 7.6 Page # 18

“BMR support for GPT and EFI to recover on the original machine without manipulating client's original disk configuration.”

This was so confusing for me because I was trying to restore on same system with no hardware changes but I was creating copy of “BMR Client Configuration” and then preparing this copy for restore by using “Prepare to restore” option.

So now I came to know even we don’t need to create any configuration copy simply we need to right click on “Current Configuration” to select “prepare to restore” as mentioned in attached screenshot.

Well I am shocked with this BMR restoration behavior because this killed the meaning of BMR. We can restore it on Dissimilar hardware :( if my hardware goes down my BMR backup is use less for me accept file level restoration.

moreover i have just checked logs because i m getting same error during restoration on same Hardware i have disabled UEFI from BIOs and start restore job every thing goes fine but at the end getting same error mentioned above.

under logs of BMRRST i have found this:

i have check link below but this is previous versions of NBU those were not supporting EFI/GPT but NBU 7.6.0.1 is supported for GPT Partitions please help

The BMR restore log on the Master will have the error message in it:

" Unable to make Registry modification required to boot the system"

See this TECH article for a possible root cause.:

After the restoration of the client files during a Bare Metal Restore (BMR) restoration, the error message " Unable to make Registry modification required to boot the system" is displayed.

The error associated with the message will be visible in the bmrrst log file on the Master.

Please let us see that log snippet or the log itself, attached to the posting.

Jaime thanks for your reply.

i have go through with that link but is not for my environment. in the end of log file i can see this error because of system was UEFI with GPT at the time we backed up and i have just only one partition "C:" and according to log file this is not relavant to mentioned tech article please go through below log file....
