The new servers are hopefully bigger with more physical resources, so, this will already ensure better performance.

Yes!

Follow this TN:

Using catalog backup and recovery to transfer NetBackup catalogs between UNIX or Linux master servers as part of a hardware refresh

Thanks for prompt rsponse Marianne.

I have gone through this TN. Please verify the below steps

  1. Make a full catalog backup of the old master server and shut it down

  2. Instaltion of SFHA on Target Node

  3. Prepare the new master server using the same host name and IP address as the old master server (ensure that the conditions stated above are met).  If the master server is also a storage server for AdvancedDisk volumes ensure that the volumes are presented to the same mount points on the new master server (i.e. /disk1 on the old master server must be mounted as /disk1 on the new master serve

  4. Install the same version of NetBackup on the new master as the version on the old master server

  5. Restore the catalog backup created from the old master server to the new master server\

  6. Once the catalog has been restored confirm the basic operation of NetBackup by running test backup and restore jobs

  7. Please add here if any step is missed above

You appear to be installing on a clustered master server.

If you are indeed installing a clustered instance of NetBackup Master Server, then have you carefully read the installation guide?  And carefully read the 'installtion process' from the release notes, and also from the download pages for both the 'base' AND the 'patch' kits.

There's way too much that you need to consider and understand for anyone to simply say do this and do that... as the devil is in the detail, and your process will be specific to your environment.

Is your master server clustered?

2. ...Instaltion of SFHA on Target Node ....

If so, you will need to perform the basic VCS Cluster config, followed by verifying all pre-reqs in NetBackup Clustered Master Server Administrator's Guide  before installing NBU into the cluster.

The rest of the steps seem fine.

Just be sure that it will be easy enough to present the DR-file and Catalog Backup storage to new master.
Always best to test the procedure before final cutover.

We have done something similar for a customer without the need for catalog recovery.
Here we did all the basic SF'HA installation and config, installed NBU with 'dummy drive' mounted for NBU catalogs and same virtual hostname as Prod, different IP. (Because nothing was added to DNS, this could be done with Prod cluster online.)
On the cutover day, we took a final catalog backup, stopped NBU on Prod and new server, deport catalog volume from old cluster, deport dummy volume on new system, ensure Prod catalog volume is accessible at OS level and can be seen by VxVM, update cluster config with new volume info and Prod IP address, update /etc/hosts, check hostnames and IPs on DNS, clear host cache, start NBU via the cluster.

If you are not comfortable with these steps, go with a full catalog recovery as per TECH77448, or find a Symantec partner with sufficient SF/HA and NBU knowledge to assist...

Thanks ,

I 'm very comfirtable with these steps and will on it as well.

Can you tell me is there any configuration parameter setting on new (targert) server?

And any performance issue on new server after configuration ?
