Unable browse directory to restore file and folders of VM backup

AndriiPushkarov

Hi all,

I am setting up a backup for a group of virtual server servers. Guest operating system Redhat 7.7

These servers have a problem: unable browse directory to restore file and folders of VM backup

Additional Information

Primary VM identifier: VM hostname

VMware datastore not logical volume

Virtual Machine Disk mode: Dependent

Virtual machine file: *.vmdk

Netbackup client 8.1.1 is installed on all servers

The problem is not observed on similar running servers witch guest operating system Redhat 6.9

Do you have experience with the described problem?

Andrii

Hi @AndriiPushkarov

Without knowning more about the environment, I suspect the problem you are seeing is the lack of granular recovery support for the XFS file system before NetBackup 8.1.2.

So your newer VM guests running RHEL 7.7 most probably are running on XFS file systems, while your older guests on RHEL 6.9 are on ext4 or similar.

If this is not the case, then also provide VMware version in use.

Cheers
David

Hi,

additionally to what @davidmoline mentioned above, if there is no xfs FS used on these VMs, you may want to check vxms logs for more information.

Servers running RHEL 7.7 guest OS run on XFS file systems. I have tested the backup / restore functionality in a Netbackup 8.3 test environment. As of Netbackup 8.3. the problem is not observed

For information, VMware ESXi 6.7 virtualization platform

Thanks for your help
