Unable to restore file and folders of VM backup

Himanshu_Shar1

I'm getting error even when restoring files & folder. Even when the host entery is done in etc\hosts and i'm able to ping the server i'm trying to restore. I'm able to ping that machine as i have done host entries but havn't installed Netbackup agent on any VM. Can i restore VM data on backup server itself as i don't have agent installed on VM.

You need a NetBackup Client installed inside the guest OS to be able to restore it.

You can restore data to the backup server and then move it from there.

PS :

Have you gone through the requirements for Full VM and file-level restore in NBU for VMware guide?

Here is the link for 7.6 manual (requirements for 7.5 are the same): NetBackup for VMware Administrator's Guide

Like sdo and marianne said: For a File Level restore you need a client. The client can be installed in the VM you made the backup for or any other Server inkl. the masterserver.

But I would never restore a Linux Backup to a Windows Client. (Your client is named yum_server This is a Redhat or Redhat clone ?)

I have gone through the document earlier as well, but in restoration window i'm not getting where i have to mentioned backup server's address. I'm only getting options to restore on original location.

Destination Client is specified in the intitial 'specify netbackup clients...' screen. The restore destination in your screenshot is the path on destination client that you want to restore to. You have not replied to Martin's post above. Is this a Windows or Unix/Linux client that you want to restore files for?

It's a linux OS (RHEL 6.0).

And i don't want to restore on same VM for which i have taken backup. But I wanted to restore on Master backup server only.

Yes. You can restore to any physical or virtual Unix or Linux host with NBU client installed. Same as any other redirected restore.

Symantec/Veritas no longer ships cd's or dvd's.

You need to download Unix Clients 2 software from Symantec FileConnect using the serial number (M#######) on your license key certificate or else from MyVeritas (using email address of the person that the software is licensed to ).

Hi Himashu,

As wrote Marianne, the cross platform restore is not supported by Veritas. I cannot recommend this but here is link....
