Hello,

I updated java on my system and now I can't get any jobs to run. I followed the instrutions on the link below, to update the Java on NetBackup.

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH148257

I have NetBackup 7.5 running on a Solaris Master and Media server.

When I do run a job I get error 84.

I honestly do not believe that status 84 is caused by the Java update.

Please show us the text in Details tab of a failed job and let us know what is NBU 7.5 patch level.

PS:
bptm must be a folder (directory), not a file.

**** EDIT ****

TLD(1) cannot dismount drive 4 , slot 5 already is full
TLD(1) cannot dismount drive 2, slot 6 alrrady is full

This normally happens when operators open the robot door to add tapes while backups are busy running.
They see open slots and add tapes.
When the tape that was in the the drive needs to dismount and go back to the slot it came from, it cannot do so because there is now another tape in that slot.

Please eject/remove the tapes in slots 5 and 6,  then run Inventory.

You should be able to UP the DOWN drive(s).

Not sure why you followed a TN that is clearly for NBU 7.0 when you are on NBU 7.5?

I really don't think that status 84 is linked to Java update.

Status 84 is I/O error at device-level.

Please show us all text in Details tab of status 84 job.

In the meantime, create bptm folder under /usr/openv/netbackup/logs, add VERBOSE entry to /usr/openv/volmgr/vm.conf and restart ltid.
This will help to troubleshoot status 84.
NBU tape manager errors will be logged in bptm log, Media Manager and OS device errors will be logged in /var/adm/messages.

Well at 1st the GUI didn't come up. Asked in a pervious post about using this Tech note on a 7.5 system and I was told it was ok. Im' getting error 84 and 2106. I reran some of the jobs with error 84 and some compleated with no errors.

I will create the log directory as you said to do, but most of my jobs wright to disk. The bptm file already exists on my system.

I'm getting alot of items like this in /var/adm/messages on the media server.
TLD(1) cannot dismount drive 4 , slot 5 already is full
TLD(1) cannot dismount drive 2, slot 6 alrrady is full
Operator/EMM server has DOWN'ed drive HP.ULTRIUMS-SCSI.012 (device 4)

We still don't know which NBU 7.5 patch level....

PLEASE show us the text in Details tab of status 84 and status 2106 jobs.
And PLEASE tell us what type of disk storage in your environment.

The DOWN drives because of tape dismount problem has nothing to do with Java patch and has nothing to do with disk Storage Server that is down.

You need to look at each issue and error separately.

NetBackup status code: 2106
Message: Disk storage server is down
Explanation: This error may occur when a job uses a disk storage unit whose disk
group resides on a storage server that NetBackup has marked down.
Recommended Action: Verify that all media servers configured for the storage
server can communicate with the storage server. The bpstsinfo command queries
the storage server periodically, so you can use the bpstsinfo log on the media

In NetBckup it says that 7.5.0.7

The 84 errors just when away., I'm still getting error 2108 but only when the Solaris 10 media server backs up. The detailed status only give 6 lines. With th only error being the last line;
Error nbjm (pid 10211) NBU status: 2106, EMM status: Storage Server is down or unavailable.

I was on the phone with tech support and they had me run the below command.

nbquary -listst -stype netApp -U and it came by with "no storage servers found"

In my other envirement I get the same output, but all is working fine there.

Thanks for you help so far.

Mariane is correct here.

Staus 84 is not caused by a java update. You would see java console issues and errors, not typically job errors. As requested please reply with the details status of the failed job. This will give us a better idea of what is going on.

The GUI is now working. Your right the errors I'm getting are not related to Java. It just happened to breack at the same time I updated Java. I will do a new fourm post the error I'm getting now 2075.
