As per the Upgrade Portal https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.000115678 you can upgrade directly.

Extreamly important to read through the Upgrade Guide and Installation Guide as version 8 is the start of major changes in NBU.

As per the Upgrade Portal:

For system requirements, documentation, and compatibility information, please use the Installation and Upgrade checklist found on the SORT website before any upgrade:
https://sort.veritas.com/checklist/install

update: interesting enough, i was running the sort tool remotely to my master server. support asked me to run it locally on the master and the tool didnt then show any errors.

Thanks.

I run SORT Instillation and Upgrate and get the following red X items.

Tomcat Web Server user/group credentials  The web server user account 'nbwebsvc' for NetBackup does not exist. If the account has not already been created by a different name, consult http://www.veritas.com/docs/000081350 for instructions to setup the account.

I had already added nbwebsvc and nbwebgrp on the master server, so not sure where this error come from or how to fix it. Any help available?

Thanks

thanks,

yes, i had already created the group and user per instructions, before running SORT. I verified with link you provided - https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.000125384

and then ran though instructions on this - https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.000116317

sort still reports the error?

Still getting this error. I have verified the accounts exist........ not sure why this is happening? Any ideas?

You did not mention whether you have created a local or domain account?

Have you run the commands as per https://www.veritas.com/support/en_US/article.000125384  ?

Another "Tip" is to consider your BMR database (BMRDB).

In my experience it has proven to be a detriment to upgrade it for major releases. If there is no specific need to carry it over to the new version you would be better served in rebuilding it. After all, every backup will start seeding it again once you've upgraded your environment...

I created local user and group, and yes, i have validated with commands. I could easily make domain accounts if it is preferable.

Local user with correct permissions is absolutely fine.

You may want to log a Support call with Veritas as NBU version 8, with description of pre-upgrade check failing.

The support engineer can use WebEx to check with you.
Sometimes we just need a different pair of eyes.
