Upgrading NetBackup 7.0 to 7.1 or 7.5

Master/Media server and clients              All Windows

Is it worth upgrading from 7.0 to 7.1 or 7.5?

We only do normal backups and VAULT.

Will we get added benefits?

Until when is 7.0 supported?

Is there an upgrade procedure available from 7.0 to 7.1 or 7.5?

Have a look at all the new features as well as added support for newer OS versions and databases.

Seeing that you are not experiencing any problems or any pressing need for features added in 7.1.x, I suggest you wait for 7.5 to go GA. In the meantime, read up all you can about features introduced in 7.1 as well as 7.5.

Hope to see you at the 7.5 launch next week? If you haven't received the invite, please contact me privately.

There is no end of life date for 7.0 (yet) that I know of.

6.x is end of lifed in October 2012.

Benefits of 7.5 over 7.1 is there will be the multiple bug fixes in NetBackup 7.5 and it will be supported longer than 7.1

The upgrade guide for NetBackup 7.5 is here:

And specifically from 7.0 to 7.1 ?

Is it just a patch, or complete upgrade?

7.0 to 7.1 is a full upgrade

Question remain -

Is it worth upgrading from 7.0 to 7.1?

The environment is very stable.

There are plenty of new features in 7.1, especially if you do vSphere backups

If you use MSDP then there are also improvements

Do upgrade to 7.1.0.3 though to be sure you are on the latest version and keep an eye on the late breaking news for any additional patches you may need:

Do you must to upgrade?

My moto is if it stable don't change it!

I have a lot of client with 7 and ask me the same question, and from technical aspect i give them the same answer! If you don't planing any environment upgrade with system that isn't supported by your backup software and you pleased with the performance of backup environment ,for now stay with 7.0.

You more then welcome to install in lab 7.5 it has huge improvement's like v-ray,dedupe, cloud and more.
