We have recently upgraded our Netbackup environment from 6.5.3 to 7.0.1. Now that we have that done and stablized, it is time to work on upgrading all of the clients from older versions to 7.0.1. Upon checking clients, I'm finding we have some Solaris machines that are running clients as old as 4.5 FP5. Question is, can I do a push upgrade of the client on those machines from the media servers or do I need to uninstall the 4.5 and install the 7.0.1 client?

First confirm compatibilty - only Solaris 9 & 10 are supported on 7.0.x:
NetBackup 7 Operating System (CL) for Client,Server,Dedupe,OpsCenter,NDMP,BMR,SAN Client,MSEO: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH76648
You should be able to update these clients using update_clients from the master , provided that the correct OS type is specified in policy config. (I seriously doubt that 4.5 supported Sol 9 & 10 - maybe Sol 9... Sol 10 support was introduced in NBU 5.x.)
For older OS versions such as Sol 8, NBU 6.5 clients are supported on 7.0.x, but you will have to update them manually.
NetBackup 6.x Operating System (CL) for Client,Server,NOM,NDMP,BMR,SAN Client,MSEO: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH70729

The clients effected by this are all Solaris 9. All of our Solaris 10 clients are 6.0 or higher. Thanks for the response!
