Upgrading Solaris clients

Hi All,

I am upgrading Netbackup Solaris clients, as i have only 512 Mb space in most of the servers, which cannot be expanded further.

So i downloaded software in client and chnage below parameter in ./install script

TMPDIR=${TMPDIR:=/tmp} to TMPDIR=${TMPDIR:=/var/tmp}

It worked for me to successfully install client.

However i cant copy that software in each client due to its size hence :

Is this software can be copied to Solrias client from master server for local installation on client.

instead of downloading complete client package -->NetBackup_7.6.0.1_CLIENTS1, can i just copy below file on Solairs clients.

[root@xxxxxx save]# pwd
/usr/openv/pack/NB_CLT_7.6.0.1/save
[root@xxxxxx save]# ls -ltrh
total 1679631
-r-xr-x---   1 root     root        819M Jul  3  2014 NB_CLT_7.6.0.1Solaris.070314_150617.tar.gz

Also let me know , if is there any way i can modify :

update_clients script in master server to use /var/tmp , instead odf /tmp.

I've just posted a procedure to make smaller v7.6.1(.2) kits here:

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/processprocedure-make-smaller-client-install-kits

...BUT...  BE WARNED - that procedure is very likely not suitable for stripping down the v7.6.0.1 Client kits.

You should be able to tweak the process for v7.6.0.1 yourself - but I wouldn't do it on a production server.  And use at your own risk.

I don't think you should copy that save file from one client to another - I believe that it is a roll-back file, and should not be used for client installs.

I think you could delete that file to free-up some space - but then you won't be able to roll-back the client version - but then maybe this isn't a problem for you.

Thank you sdo for making me correct.

@ Marianne,

I checked with Unix team, that /swap space cannot be increased.

I think i need to go with manual installation.

It is dead-easy to increase swap/tmp space by adding a swapfile. See: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23823_01/html/817-5093/fsswap-59089.html

Hi Marianne,

Our unix team is not ready to increase the swap space.

So, i saved software on nfs volume, mounted that volume on all the servers.

Modified below parameter in ./install script:

TMPDIR=${TMPDIR:=/tmp} to

TMPDIR=${TMPDIR:=/var/tmp}

So far i have upgraed most of the servers.

I got this solution from the Champ35 post , that you referred.

Thank you.
