If you have not deployed Live Updated in your environment, then upgrading clients is exactly the same as intitial installation.

See "Installing NetBackup client software" in chapter 6 of NetBackup Installation Guide

Hi Marianne,

I read and it is considering it as fresh installtion.

This is written in chapter 6 page 84.

"You cannot install NetBackup client software on the
computers that currently have NetBackup server software.
In these cases, you must first remove the NetBackup server
software.
"

Will it not be considered as overwrite of the settings and logs, etc. that are already installed and set at the client side. I think this will be a fresh installation, right?

The statement that you refer to is for NetBackup Servers. Master and Media servers.

If you have already upgraded Master an Media servers, then the client binaries on the servers were upgraded along with the Server software. No need to install or upgrade client software on NBU Master or Media servers.

Skip to this topic at the bottom of page 84:

About Windows client installation methods and requirements

and then to page 87:

Installing NetBackup Windows clients locally or remotely

Installation of Client software on existing NBU Clients will detect existing software and perform upgrade.
No log folders or registry settings will be removed.
