Hello All,
A querry regading VM backup.
1:) How can we backup full VM (.vmdk file).?.. How to configure it (Backup selection), Any licence required..?
2:) Or Is there any way to backup a VM as a physical machine, means we can backup C or D drive as physically, if yes what type of Licence required and where to put it.
Appreciate if any one let me know how to configure in both the cases.
Smiles,

You basically have three options:
1. Using a standard client license, purchased per physical host, you can install the NetBackup Client inside each of the virtual machines and back them up as you would physical machines, though I'd strongly suggest limiting the number of jobs in the policy to keep from overwhelming the server.
2. You can license the Enterprise Client per physical host and protect the virtual machines by interfacing with the Hyper-V server, so that you can restore the entire VM, rather than just the files inside of it. This license costs considerably more, but in a DR scenario, it's worth it, as you can recover much more quickly.
3- If you have a capacity license, you don't need to purchase any additional license.
Just Create A Policy with Type Hyper-V and the selection list will be ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES, on th Client type your Host name/IP , this will show you all the VM's hosted on this Host. you need to install Netbackup Agent on the Host.
if you want to Directly backup through VM just install the Client on the VM and create a policy with the required type : Ex MS Windows to select VM drives.
if that make sense for you Marke as a solution.

1:) How can we backup full VM (.vmdk file).?.. How to configure it (Backup selection), Any licence required..?
I assume you are to back up VM using NetBackup for VMware.
In traditional license model, you need to purchase Enterprise Client license for each physical host(ESX host). No need to configure Backup Selections. Just keep it default(ALL_LOCAL_DRIVES). In capacity license, you don't need to purchase any additional license.
NetBackup for VMware treat backup target at VM level, so you can not specify VMDK as backup target. Only option to control which disk to be backuped up is Virtual disk seletion option. But please note that excluded disks will be created as empty disk at recovery while it is not backed up.
For more detail about configuration steps and options, please have a look on NetBackup for VMware Administrator's Guide.

You can configure backups on VMs as same as physical machines by installnig and configuring NetBackup Client on VMs. In traditional license model, you need to purchase Standard Client license(or Enterprise Client license) for each physical host(ESX). In capacity license model, no additional license is needed.

Hi, Sorry for delay but ......
Media server on VM is not recommended / not Supported / not as per the best practices by Symantec.
However it will work for small environment but .... symantec tech support will not help you in case of any issue.
