VM Clientless File Level Restore?

HunkerDownOneMo
Level 4

Just wanted to see if Vertias has future plans to ever support a clientless file-level restore ability, similar to VEEAM? Instead of having to deploy a client and restore via a network, how nice would it be to have file level restores simply work through the VMWARE API rather than the traditional client / network method? IMHO, Vertias has some catching up to do in this department. Smiley Wink

Veeam certainly have a couple of clever tricks.
Such as their so-called agentless application backups where they silently install the agent at the start of the backup and remove it again at the end.

With Instant VMware recovery, you can also restore without an agent installed in the VM.

The proof is certainly comparing apples with apples.

We had a large customer at my previous company who was using NBU for everything.
SAN-based VMware backups were done using NBU Appliances as backup hosts and media servers.

Veeam convinced them to do a POC in a small, controlled test environment.
All went well, the customer was impressed and they then implemented Veeam in their production environment.

Production environment was a different story - backup performance was pathetic, dedupe rates poor and Veeam could do nothing to fix matters.

Needless to say - NetBackup is once again the only backup product in this environment.
