VM Hyper-v backup end in status job 48

stucci

HI all,

I need some suggestion, on host Hyper-v I have a lot of VM and the backup of all those VM work fine.

Only one backup end in status job 48. I try ping and nslookup from Master and Media and it is all ok, also the reverse lookup is ok.

I read this:

The problem may be one of the following:

•The NetBackup master server cannot communicate with the virtual machine.

•The host name of the virtual machine is not available.

The NetBackup job details log contains the following message:
Error bpbrm(pid=8072) Nameuse [0], VM [<vm name>]
not found on any node. Is either powered off or does
not exist.

The virtual machine is either not running, or it is booting up. Make sure that the virtual machine is running and then rerun the backup.

but the VM is up and running.

Double-check the name used in the policy.

Maybe a typo error?

Is the HyperV in a cluster? Do you have client on all nodes, and using cluster hyperv as host?

If I remember correctly there was a similar issue on vmware, if the hostname and the displayname was not the same.

The bpresolver log probably contain clues to what the problem is.

The only other thing I can think of is the Hyper-V integration service not properly installed on this VM and running online backup.

EDIT

Is the DNS domain for this VM a search domain on the backup host(s) ?

The standard questions: Have you checked: 1) What has changed. 2) The manual 3) If there are any tech notes or VOX posts regarding the issue

Hello Riaan,
yes the hyper-v is in a cluster and yes I installed NBU client on all nodes and in the policy I use cluster hyperv host.

Hi Michael,

I created /usr/openv/netbackup/logs/bpresolver on client (host) on master and on Media, I run newly the policy but the log folder remains empty.

"The only other thing I can think of is the Hyper-V integration service not properly installed on this VM and running online backup."

I do not installed the client directly on VM, but I installaed the client on the Host Hyper-v.

See if there is anything in install_path\NetBackup\logs\bpVMutil logs that will tell you what's happening. Logs should be on the client (all hyperv hosts, but probably the one that has the cluster ip active)

I created bpVMutil on the client, I attach the log, but I think that we do not help us.

Is your VM listed in

C:\Program Files\VERITAS\NetBackup\online_util\fi_cntl\vcbnames_hyperv_Any

This not the Netbackup client, but an integration between the hyper-v host's and the VM's vss systems, which is need for online backup.

Hi,

It would probably be on the media server (or maybe the hyperv parent).

nothing, I searched in Media:

xxxnbu03:/usr/openv/netbackup/online_util/fi_cntl # ls -l | grep vcb
xxxnbu03:/usr/openv/netbackup/online_util/fi_cntl #

in host Hyper-v:

.... if you have any idea/test/suggestions the backup fails again in 48.

tks!!

Can you put this vm in a job by itself and then run it. We'll review the logs and see what is going on.

on the VM there is not installed NBU client. I Installed the NBU client in Host Hyper-v, I mean I can launch the single Manual backup of this machine when I want.

Please show me all logs necessary for a good troubleshooting.

If you think that it is better open a case I can do it.

thank you for your support.

Just copy the hyper-v to new one and then only select the client you want.
