VM Intelligent Policy - Media Server connecting to non-specified vCenter

Hi Guys,

Just like to check with you if you have seen the issue where a Media Server tries to talk to a vCenter not specified in the policy. My policy specifically specified:

vmware:/?filter=vCenter Contains 'vcenterOne'

but it still tried to connect to vcenterTwo and vcenterThree. FW rules do not allow connections to these 2 vcenters so the policy fails.

Error nbpem (pid=11840) vSphere login failed, server = [vcenter

 60633 125.247601 MediaServer vcenterTwo TCP 70 [TCP Retransmission] 41228 → 443 [SYN] Seq=0 Win=14600 Len=0 MSS=1460 SACK_PERM=1 WS=256

Thanks for your feedback.

yes.. its is a normal behaiver... query alll ways try to run against all the Vcetners configured in specific Master server.. even though it is not listed in query...

if the specific Vcneter can not communicate from the backup host, we can exlcude the Vcenter from the media server by updating the virutlation.conf file in virtualization.conf in case of UNix backup host or updating the registyr key excludeVMservers  in case of Windows backup hosts.

please follow the steps in below Technote to exclude the Vcetner from backups host.

Depending on what version of NBU you are using, in 7.7.3, you can also set the VMware server list per policy. Open the policy, go to the VMware tab, clicked Advanced and scroll down to VMware server list. Specify which VMware servers are being used in the policy and it will query only that one.

Thanks much for your replies. Both of your solutions would work but for our environment, I would go with limiting which vCenter a policy connects using the VMWare tab > Advance Button > VMware server list since our media servers connect to all our vCenter servers.

Thanks a lot.
