VM Intelligent Policy

Just migrated several servers to using VM Intelligent Policies. Noticed that large xml files are being generated for each Parent job. The xml files are eating up space on /usr/openv directory. Is there a way to reconfigure the vm queries to lessen the size of the xml files? The queries are just looking for vCenter and server name but the xml file seem to iterate through all the clients in the master server. The xml files are from 20MB to 80MB in size with about 4600 xml files in the /usr/openv/netbackup/db/jobs/restart directory consuming around 250GB of space.

The xml file persists in NetBackup database until its age exceeds the time specified in the “Reuse VM selection query results for” policy attribute.

If the xml file is deleted then a then a discovery job starts and shows up in the Activity Monitor.

Based on https://vox.veritas.com/t5/Netting-Out-NetBackup-Blog/Nuts-and-bolts-in-NetBackup-for-VMware-Discove...

So, if the Reuse VM Selection query is set to 8 hours and we ran incrementals everday, it would continue to create the xml files everyday.

What if we consolidate the policies? So this means that it would do the discovery only once as opposed to doing it twice (for example if 2 policies were consolidated). I assume this would make one bigger xml file but less than the sum of 2 xml files.

Or we can set up the Reuse VM Selection to 2 days.

A colleague introduced the idea that we are having this issue because the queries were added via command line as opposed to using the GUI. Does anybody know if this is a possibility?

Thanks again for all your inputs.
