Hello,
In my scenario I am backing up the VM's via Vcentre server and NBU version is 7.0. I am facing issue during a restore, below find the error logs:

4/3/2013 12:05:24 AM - end Restore; elapsed time: 00:05:31
the restore failed to recover the requested files(5)
I enabled the VXMS, bpvmutil, bpbrm and bptm logs to further troubleshoot on this. I noticed in bpvmutil the below message:
20:21:28.763 [6680.2184] vmwareLogger: WaitForTaskComplete: Invalid configuration for device '2'.
20:21:28.763 [6680.2184] vmwareLogger: WaitForTaskComplete: SYM_VMC_ERROR: TASK_REACHED_ERROR_STATE

20:21:28.763 [6680.2184] <2> bpVMutil main: EXIT STATUS 5: the restore failed to recover the requested files
I got to know from some posts on symantec connect; that this error is beacuse of an .ISO file was presented to a virtual machine as a virtual CD or DVD during backup,The ISO file must be available on the destination host. If the ISO is not available on the host where you restore the virtual machine, the restore fails. The vCenter interface may include the message Invalid configuration for Device ’1′.
I tried all the possible way to restore, but strange thing is that when I clicked on start restore the BAR GUI went to hang(not responding) for long time and than after 5 min I see the restore job in device moniter. I checked with Symnatec support team and they only suggested me to upgrade the NBU version.
Any suggestions from your end?
Cheers
J

hi,
are you trying to restore to the same location or alternate location?
did you try unchek the option "Remove backing information for devices like DVD/CD-ROM drives, serial or parallel ports"
if you are doing to the same location , try doing to the alternate location and
seelct "Remove backing information for devices like DVD/CD-ROM drives, serial or parallel ports"
and uncheck" Network informaton"
and try restore

Hello Nagalla,
Thanks for your response.
I am restoring the VM to alternate location. And regarding uncheck that option, I am also surprise that I can't see this in NBU 7.0.
I implemented NBU 7.5 in other environment and ther I could see this option in 3rd or 4th step of restoration. But here in 7.0 I can't. Any Idea?
Thanks
J

Hello Mark,
Yes the bpvmutil logs was captured last time, yesterday again I ran the restore and that is the message from activity monitor.
Its a re directed restore not an overwrite.I am restoring VM to alternate location.
NBU version is : 7.0.1
Path Level: NB_7_0_1_ET2105102_5

Have you backed up the VM with quisce option enable?
Also let us know your drives configuration. We have faced this issue earlier. Our restore took NDMP dedicated drives to restore the VM and gets failed with error 5 or 2826.
Please re-verify the same and update. Also please provide us all required logs for a same job.
