VMware VADP Load Balancing - STU or STUG?

Just wondering what other people on here do for load balancing their VM backups.

•  I've got 8 dedicated backup hosts which backup all VM polices
• 4000 VMs split up into 4 polices by datacentre
• Each policy uses 'MEDIA SERVER" as VMware backup host
• All backups go to the same storage (DD)

Question

Should I be pointing the policies to a single storage unit which all backup hosts have access to? Or, should I have a storage unit for each backup host and have them in a storage unit group with load balancing set?

Hi

Are you using SAN Transport? If you are then I would ensure that you make 8 storage units and divide the load between them (8 policies). Otherwise you'll be using a media server to pull from the SAN, pass it to another media server via the LAN, which then puts it on DD (probably via LAN too).
