VMware restore from VMFS3 to VMFS5

BTLOMS

Every time I try to restore a VM that was backed up when it was on VMFS3, to a new VMFS5 LUN, the restore completes fine, but I cannot boot up the VM. I tried to mount the VMDK on another server and read it, but it says disk is corrupted.

Is anyone aware of a bug or a known issue?

This is NBU 7.6.02

the backup was done on 7.5.05

thanks,

If your able to restore the VM without any errors from NetBackup, it looks like NetBackup had a successful restore.

What is the ESXI version you running now? Have you checked the VM hardware version for compabilty with the ESXI your running? Virtual machine hardware versions

Hi, BTLOMS

Do you mean that you backed up VM from 7505 and then upgrade to 7602, and then restore from 7602?

Not sure if yours is a issue. Here is similar to the following topic, where we dicussed that backup and restore from 7602 works fine.

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/restoring-vmware-servers-different-datastore-vmfs-ver...

Could you please try a backup and restore from 7602 in your environment?

In addition, notice that if backup with hotadd, when you restore with default transfer modes(san:hotadd:nbd:nbdssl), the restore would fail. As a workround, restore with nbd only or hotadd only.

Thanks
