VMware single-pass backup for SQL DB Mirroring

Hi,

For a SQL DB Mirroring pair of servers residing on VMware, is it possible to make use of the "Enable SQL Recovery" option to backup these servers using a "VMware" policy? I found out from the admin guide that NetBackup SQL agent can do the backup using the legacy method but not the SQL Intelligent Policy. However nothing is mentioned regarding VMware single-pass backup. Any kind soul can shed some light to this? Thank you in advance.

Hello,

I agree that NBU SQL Admin Guide (7.7.2, page 126) claims that only SQL traditional clusters and Log Shipped instances are supported by MSSQL Intelligent policies.

However I tested backups also via Intelligent policies and VMware policies for mirrored instances and they seem to work, too. Of course, while principal db backups are ok, mirror db backups fail because dbs are in restoring state and these cannot be backed up (regardless policy type - this is by design from Microsoft).
