VirtualCenter server must not be installed on the same host as the VMware backup proxy server

We are looking at setting up a backup proxy server to backup VMware clients using the NetBackup Enterprise Client.  The NetBackup for VMware Configuration documentation says that the VirtualCenter server must not be installed on the same host as the VMware backup proxy server.  Does anyone know why, or has anyone tried to do this?

Symantec told me that they have to be on two different machines.

I think it's now supported (ESX 3.5 U2), there used to be an issue with VC templates getting messed up or something due to common DLLs. Best to raise a call with VMware though and confirm it's OK to co-exist.

Wondering if you've seen this white paper:

Veritas NetBackup v6.5 for VMWare 3.x Best Practices:

Yes, that's a good resource.  On page 8 of http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/vcb_35_new.pdf it states  "Support for installing the Consolidated Backup proxy and VirtualCenter Management Server on the same host" as a new feature, but Symantec and others I have talked to don't agree with that statement.  My guess is it can work, but nobody recommends it so it probably is risky at this point.

Does anyone know if the VCB proxy works with Virtual Center these days?
