I have seen status 811's twice. In both cases hosts files were used for comms - NBU was configured with short names, but FQDN names were used in SOME hosts files. What we found is that for some reason NBU wanted to use FQDN for resource allocation where it was mentioned, but because of missing/incorrect FQDN in one of the hosts file, backups failed with status 811.  bptestbpcd  tests were successful.

Details of the two cases that I'm referring to can be seen in my post in this discussion:

Thanks Marianne,

bpclntcmd -self returned FQDN (hostname.domainame)  in getfqdn ( I use shortname everywhere) but all other media server bpclntcmd -self returned getfqdn: Success!!

this is our first windows media server and joined a domain and no entry in local host file like fqdn! and master host file include only short name like other media. and I remove domain name at the end of fqdn in NBU installation process

Hi, for test I disjoin media from domain and now I have new issue, backup failed with status 41,

172.20.22.92 is virtual machine IP address, netbackup wants to connect to this machine? I have to install netbackup on this?! which bpbkar32 failed to start?

Thanks

Hi,

I agree to Marianne's response ! Status 811 is abolutely caused by worng DNS / host entries. Make sure you have correct IP/hostname resolving and try running "bpclntcmd -clear_host_cache" repeadtely on Master and Media and check or just remove /usr/openv/var/host_cache directory and restart NetBackup services including PBX.
