Vmware virtual machine snapshot

Hello Guys,

I was trying to take backup of VMware virtual machine and I got an Error saying:

The virtual machine is configured to use a device that prevents the snapshot operation: Device '' is a SCSI controller engaged in bus-sharing.

Initiator: VSPHERE.LOCAL\Administrator.

After searching I got a recommendation to install client software on the guest os.

My Question is can I take a snapshot with Client installed? or I should use file system backup?

Thank You

Hello,

you must use filesystem backup. VMware snapshot are not possible when VM has a shared bus (VMware restriction). BTW, do you need it? It is usually required for clusters only.

@dawitayele

I have moved your post to the NetBackup forum as your query is not directly related to NetBackup Appliance.

@Michal_Mikulik1 is correct - this is a VMware limitation.
