WRN - unable to set short name on restore

Hi

(netbackup 7.5.0.6 master/media/client)

When moving the data from a win 2008 file server to a new win 2012 file server i get ALOT of theese messages:

"Warning bpbrm(pid=2210) from client XXX: WRN - unable to set short name on restore FILE..... - (err=00000131)"

Is this normal behaviour, anyone that can explain what "unable to set short name on restore" actually means?

i have read an old tech about it but it does not say so much, its not possible to check all the files that gives this message.http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH38780

i have checked a couple of files and they were fine but how can i be sure that the restore actually works?

also, the file count differ from the backup and the restore, i have another post about this if this could be related:

https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/backup-sizefilcount-and-restore-sizefilcount-diff-761...

the status on the restore says sucessfull but also a ton of those messages.

thanks

Johan

Take a look at this blog - it maybe that 8.3 (short names) are disabled on your target server

As that is an attribute for the restore it may affect the numbers when doing the restore

Hope this helps or at least explain a couple of things - will add it to your other thread too:
