We have some SAP workloads; both database and applications that are running on VMware environment. We want to take regular application consistatnt backups of the databases into tapes. The database is Sybase ASE. I wonder what Symantec product would be ideal for the task? Is it Symantec Netbackup or Symantec Backup Exec?
Backup exec is only recommended for small business and very simple environments. It's not an enterprise level software.
Netbackup does have a supported native SAP connector. It's also a better long term investment in software if you are planning on growing your business and need a robust backup solution to cover all of your systems in one place.

Please note that if your SAP installation is using Microsoft SQL Server as database engine, you won't be able to use the SAP native agent. However, you will be able to protect your SAP with other NetBackup policies (Windows & SQL).
